I absolutely love this bakery, which is just a short leisurely walk away from my school. Friendly service, lots of tables and large windows. They offer sandwiches, soups, and fresh baked pastries.
I ordered the merendine bun and a small hot chocolate. Fabulous! The merendine bun is their signature pastry - "a flaky butter bun infused with high quality Mexican vanilla." I'm so glad I decided to try this instead of going with my usual chocolate croissant, which is also amazing by the way. They serve Stumptown coffee, so the drinks are great as well.
My friend and I are adding this wonderful little neighborhood bakery to our list of places at which we are going to become regulars.

Adobe Rose Café

Now, I'm from Hawaii, and Hawaii has no Mexicans. Therefore, I am not at all an expert on Mexican food. In fact, for a while I had convinced myself that I didn't like Mexican food. That is, until I came to Adobe Rose. As stated earlier, this may or may not be authentic Mexican food, but my friend from New Mexico likes it as much as I do, so it can't be that bad. Cheerful place that's walkable distance from my school.

Papa Haydn

Hands down, Portland's most popular dessert place. I haven't tried any of their other meals, but Papa Haydn's desserts are definitely their specialty. For about $8 you can have an autumn meringue, cassata, boccone dolce, chocolate hazelnut torte, lemon chiffon cake. Every time I go, I have to first look at the dessert case and see which one I feel like having that day. Upscale setting. There are two: one in Nob Hill and one in Sellwood.
